I drew some letters

Yes, this afternoon I drew some letters. I quite like some of them. This is something I would like to do more. Much, much more.

Woodgrain font, perhaps?

Let's Hang the Landlord

I don't normally share general music videos on this blog, but this video is pretty fun. And I literally cannot stop listening to The King Blues, as my chart shows this week. Plus, this song is one of my favourites. So chuffed that they're coming to Falmouth at the end of term, will be a brilliant.

Oh and no offense meant towards my future landlord!

Flickr finds

I seem to have accumulated several Flickr bookmarks on my bookmark bar - things waiting to be blogged!

The first has been bookmarked since this time last week, after attending a lecture by Andy Neal, one of my second year tutors. He talked briefly about his, and other graphic design tutors involvement in the Cornish Lettering Archive. Which is what I will proceed to post here!

Unfortunately their Flickr account hasn't been updated in well over a year but some nice finds anyway. I have many of my own I could add to their collection.

Which brings me to... my new Flickr account. Filled with signs, lettering, typography and trees.

How long do animals live?

I haven't posted any info graphics for a long time. Normally all the ones I see either just look pretty or are about politics or sports, or something I am not so bothered about learning. However, this one is both simple and informative, everything it should be really.

And I like animals, of course. Didn't know a swan lived for so long. Or that a fox lives for less than 10 years. I wonder if this is taking into account road kill... or just general lifespan. Interesting anyway!

Gnomeo and Juliet (at last)

Only two months after it was originally released, I have finally seen Gnomeo and Juliet. And for a mere £2.99 with popcorn and drink as well.

I knew I'd like it simply because it has garden gnomes (duh!) in it but it was seriously brilliant. I'm even going to go as far as to say it's the best animated movie ever (maybe... the Lion King will put up a fight). But that's just me.

They even made clunky terracotta-style noise when they moved. And lookee what you can buy on ebay, although to be honest actual garden gnomes would be a million times better.

I have yet to find actual garden gnomes of the same characters as in the film, although you would think that would be the logical movie memorabilia to sell. And there were some fine characters that would look lovely in my garden.

It's not going to beat Arcade Fire

But this is amazing.

At least the music, not the video quality. Haha.

Just over a month 'til I see Arcade Fire, and I will hopefully see Crazy Arm again sometime... soon - maybe, maybe not.

I haven't had these biscuits for years. I want some. Were/are they actually called 'pink panther' biscuits? Or is that just me?

Gnomes and Gnewquay

Today I took a trip to Gnome World, Indian Queens (near Newquay) with Ning and Jo. Unfortunately, as I suspected there wasn't much at gnome world. Although, what I didn't expect is that the shop wouldn't be open, haha. So didn't buy any gnomes, but I did see a few.

Giant gnome guards the entrance.
Spot the gnomes in this photo...
A contradictory sign. Gardens this way, but no entry,

Gnome world is pretty near Newquay, and also happens to be where Ning is from. Thus we had no trouble getting there afterwards. Which is where most of the afternoon was spent with iced coffee, chips and sitting by the harbour for a few hours. Not all of that happened at once, I should point out.

Nice little reference to Hokusai's Great Wave.
I didn't take very good photos because I was so close to the building but this very modern
block of flats - with Pizza Express underneath, made me feel like I was in London.
Very unusual for Cornwall. Rocklands.
I love these sort of Cornish fishing boats.

So a good day all 'round really. I've been having good Saturdays out lately. Will try to keep it up!

Sometimes I wish I was an illustrator

But then I remember that I can't draw that well. Meanwhile, here's the winner of a competition set by the London Transport museum. Illustrations of London are always nice to see.

"The London Transport Museum's Serco Prize for Illustration was won by Anne Wilson with Winding through the City. Illustrators were asked to create an image featuring the River Thames." creative review

Also, the person who won third place is a student at UCF.
Go Falmouth!

Punk ’n’ roll

I've literally only just realised how much I like modern American punk music. Here's a new track by the Menzingers, recorded in one take apparently!

Beautiful maps

I went to Redruth today to visit Jo, and found lots of amazing old books in a shop there. I was dithering over whether to buy this book as £8 seemed like a lot of money to me, but I decided it was worth it.

In the days before Milton Keynes... well, actually it's on there but it is Milton Keynes Village.

Coworth Park

As the author of this post states, over on, there is a lot more to this brand than this one image. But tree + type is just beautiful.

Okay then, I'll throw in a few more images...

Wood grain

Does this look like wood grain?

Because that's what it is meant to be...
