Bellamy

I have been sat flicking through learn something new everyday, as it's been... well, I haven't looked at the site since last year. This is a bad drawing of Matt Bellamy (in the sense that it doesn't look much like him). Also, it's kind of sad that he's smashed (/wasted) that many guitars but hey, he's Matt Bellamy.

Elk

Last night I became an elk.

Here's me demonstrating it before actually putting my antlers on.
 And then the real thing:

Goodbye cow

I enjoyed this quite a bit, as I enjoyed the previous adverts.
Goobye cow, pirate and cyclist.
(I never knew the third character was a cyclist...)

Ellinor's birthday cake

I found a recipe for a Norwegian cake a week or so ago, planning on making it for Ellinor, for her birthday today. The cake is called bl√łte kake, and is basically a sponge cake with fresh (or de-frosted frozen, in my case) fruit and whipped cream.

And so, with help from Sarah and Joel, we made this cake last night. We didn't get making it until something like 10pm, as we're all very busy people. My Wii did emerge from the cave that it's been hiding in, to play whilst the cake was baking, which was goooood.

This represents mountainous Norway.

Juice & fruit.
 Cake is formed.
And there we go, the flag was a nice touch.
Happy birthday Ellinor. :)

Clients

One of my friends posted this on Twitter. It is indeed, brilliant:

Sam Winston

This afternoon we had a great lecture from Sam Winston, who is not quite what you'd class as a graphic designer but more of an artist who uses text and words rather than painting etc. I'm not going to say too much, but he's done some great stuff. Plus he was really interesting to listen to, despite not being a designer himself.

Obviously there are stories and ideas behind each of these images, so check out his website for his own descriptions. And more work!

Valentines

So apparently it's valentines day. I wouldn't have known (aside from reading things on the internet) if Ellinor hadn't given me this lovely card. Hehe.

Yes, I do love bubble wrap.

EDIT: Also, browsing my blog feed, this is quite cute.

Chy Morva

That's the name of my new house. Or at least the house I'll be living in come July/August, as we signed our contracts this evening. And that's the only thing I've actually done today.

After a very good house party, including a brief trip into town and back again, for Lee's birthday last night, I wasn't up to much today. Didn't leave Leeannajames' house 'til 4am.

But YAY HOUSE!
This will be us:

(Joel, Ellinor and I)
Of course, we already look like this. But we will be in our own house.

LOL

Ellinor posted this on Facebook last night, I just watched it now and it has already brightened my morning – not that my morning was very un-bright.

Best £3.50 I have spent in a long time

Yes!

Don't be spineless

I read an interesting article on the Creative Review blog last night, regarding book spines. The spine is, more often than not, the part of the book that you see on a shelf. It has to grab you in some way to take the book in your hands and look at the cover and the blurb
on the back.

"The point is that while book design is largely celebrated in terms of what front covers and jackets look like, the spine can be an oft-neglected dead zone. And this is crazy, because in a bookshop it's what customers are presented with in their hundreds, aside from those copies fortunate enough to be displayed facing outwards, of course. Perhaps the rise of browsing online has removed the need to treat the spine as a significant part of the design? In any case, it's the reader who has to put up with any potential design horrors once it's up on the bookshelf."
