Scrobbling

Do you know what "scrobbling" means? If you use Last.fm you might. If you have no idea what Last.fm is then you most definitely won't know what the word means. This is the problem that faced Lethal whilst I was on placement with them last month. Last.fm had approached them to put together some ideas for a pitch – they wanted to make people more aware of scrobbling and fully understand exactly what it is.

It was a good time for me to be in the studio, as I have been a user of Last.fm for the last 6 years, while Jesse and Ben of Lethal had never used it before. Although they both have profiles set up now!

Scrobbling is basically the process of recording your listening habits and storing it on an online music profile, Last.fm; this then allows the site to recommend you new music based on your existing music collection.

The Moomins

I love the Moomins and I love these old Moomin books from the 1970s. I saved them from the Bank Holiday loft clear-out to keep for myself. Tove Jansson's illustrations are lovely, particularly this first book cover – illustrations that continue to the back of the book are always nice.

Pretty Old Puffins

Bank holiday weekends mean clearing out the loft in our house and these 60s and 70s Puffin books were just a few of the finds.

My favourite find.
Notice how huge the Puffin logos are.
Moose?

Transport Museum: Mind the Map

The last in my series of London blogs from Wednesday, and the second from the Trasport Museum. This time focusing on the temporary exhibition, Mind the Map. It was excellent by the way.

I don't just photograph the visual things at exhibitions, I photograph text too.
Illustrated maps are brilliant.
And then comes the tube map…
Including pocket maps.
Geographical tube maps, before Harry Beck.
Harry Beck changed everything…
Current map.
Clever and simple poster.
Classic.
And some tube type to end.

Transport Museum: Posters

I visited the London Transport Museum on Wednesday, I was last there in October but there were a few new things/things I must have missed – including some lovely posters (some are suspiciously Olympics related).

Always essential to photograph some lettering.
Old maps on old trains.
Places to swim outdoors in London! Albeit, several decades ago.
Love this Wimbledon poster.
Lovely colours.
Typographic bus blinds.

One more blog to come, of the Mind the Map temporary exhibition.
