23 Signs you are becoming a design geek
I especially like the typography ones.

Whenever you see fog on a forested hillside, you think, nature is making a gaussian blur.

You're sitting in the movie theater watching the movie titles, shaking your head at how badly they're kerned.

Your biggest fear is Papyrus becoming the new Comic Sans.

You know that, by default, if three designs are shown to a client, your least favorite will be chosen – or any combination of worst components of each.  

You have an uncanny ability to automatically see when something is lined up properly without the need for tools or devices, for instance if a shelf is straight, and where the center of the wall is to hang a picture.

It was very tempting to go in the sea today. But I went to the beach straight from uni, after a very successful learning team*, and therefore had unsuitable attire, plus no towel. I will make it in past my knees before the end of term.

*a learning team consists of one tutor and eight students. We discuss our own projects, recieve feedback and ideas. It's useful to reassure you that you're doing the right thing and that your work is good enough.

Summer type

These posters from the Typography Cocktail series, here, sum up the weather at the moment. It's beautiful in Falmouth. But the sun is deadly, I have extremely burnt feet from sitting at the beach yesterday afternoon.

I was also writing in the sand with the handle end of my fishing net (meant for catching crabs, but the tide was in so far that there were no rock pools), which reminds me of this:

When I carved 'freedom' in the sand near St Micheal's Mount,

about two years ago, and watched as the sea washed it away.

Kanji animals

These remind me of a transforming Digimon toy I had years ago, well afterall,
that was Japanese as well. I assume the kanji writing says the word

I'm possibly going back to uni at 5.30 to watch some more of this sort of strangely mesmerising video series. We watched an hour or so of this before in a HACCS lecture, which received mixed opinions. Some people didn't see the point in watching it, or what it was about. But I found it quite interesting and especially with the music, it is incredibly mesmerising.

Good deeds & positive design

Seeing as I'm working on the little things that can make someones day or helping others which in turn makes you feel happier, it's pretty funny that I should carry out a "good deed" as I'm walking home from uni. (I'm not sure that made sense, but basically...)

As I was passing through the Falmouth Town station car park, an elderly couple stopped me and asked if there was a taxi rank nearby. Nearest is the Moor at the other end of town, so I gave them the number for a taxi company instead. I vaguely knew where they were going but I didn't want to give them the wrong directions and there isn't a map at the train station. But they seemed very grateful and as I said "you're welcome" I realised I'd done a good deed and that made me feel good. Something to write about in my work. Haha.

While at uni I'm continuing with the passing on a smile sort of idea, and little things such as saying "thank you" when someone hold the door. I've also returned to looking at some of my favourite Anthony Burrill posters, which the uni printers refused to print! But they're great.

I don't think I'd seen the middle three woodblock type prints so it was good to check out his website in full again. Simplicity = good design.

I haven't made it to see Iron Man 2 yet! But hopefully next week.
