I rather like these minimal posters for this new film – Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I also rather like Gary Oldman so it's probably a film worth watching!

Off With Their Heads!

I like history and I like learning. But I don't know much, so I bought a(nother) book. It helps when a history book is nicely designed and simplified into the "best bits of British history - with all the boring bits left out."

There are cute little character illustrations for various periods of history,
such as Henry VIII for the Tudors. I rather like the Viking chap (Early Middle Ages).

So I'm retiring to bed to read me some history. I've been hooked on George R.R. Martin's Clash of Kings for the last four days, but I finished the 900 page beast of a book last night. Brilliant, but I'm having a days break before I tackle the next book!

60s Sainsbury's packaging

This stuff is amazing. So much better than what they use now, at least regarding their basics own-brand ranges. (I worked in Sainsbury's for two years-ish, so I have seen a lot of their packaging!)

Frank Turner @ Roadmender, Northampton

When my favourite folk-punker announced a pre-Reading & Leeds warm up show in Northampton, just 30 minutes from home, I could not say no. Even 'though I'm also booked up to see him (and Against Me!) in November – having to travel to London from Cornwall. It was my fifth Frank Turner gig, making him the artist I have seen most times (aside from local acts).

Quite possibly the best FT gig yet, although it's hard to beat the first time I saw him, at the Camden Roundhouse joined by Chuck Ragan and Crazy Arm.
